About
I didn’t discover weaving and textile art until I was well into my midlife years, and I’ve been busily making up for lost time ever since.
I am completely fascinated by how the technical aspects of weaving and creating with cloth combine with the artistic elements of colour, texture, shape and form in creating textiles and textile art. Working out the interlacement of warp and weft to create the pattern and understanding the characteristics and behaviour of different fibres have become my passion. It’s a never-ending journey of discovery which excites me just as much today as it did the first time I picked up a shuttle.
Based near the Jurassic Coast in the south-west of England, much of my inspiration comes from the deep history of Dorset and the wider Wessex region – landscape, coastline, geology and especially archaeology. As a neurodivergent artist I’m particularly sensitive to pattern and texture in the natural environment and prehistoric artefacts, which is reflected and interpreted in my handwoven cloth and stitched and felted designs.
